Well, in order to continue with DayTickler, it was time I got myself a real Android phone, so I can try it on real hardware…
Now bare in mind, this is my first Android phone ever !!!
I got myself a “Blu Studio One Plus“. Looked like a really good phone except no NFC. I put in a 128 gig sdcard which works (I was scared cause it the web site mentionned 64 gig max) and started using the thing.
Oy, I had played with my dad’s phone which is a Samsung Note 5 and I was kinda ok with it. The hardware itself is great, the phone is a bit big for my taste but runs fine.
Android though, ouch, what a mess. I actually prefer my wif’e’s iPhone than using the Android OS. I’ll be switching back to Windows Phone 10 as soon as I can (if they only fix that app gap problem…).
Each app looks different. If I copy music via usb, I have to open the songs in an app that looks like mid 90s. I copied a video file but never figured out how to open it. I had have three email apps for some reason, Outlook and the mail thing that comes with android plus and one more from google. My contact list doesn’t merge contacts, plus doesn’t show facebook contacts.
All in all, I am not impressed.
Now Build 2016 is coming up and this is what I hope to hear…
1 – Windows 10 integrate my phone and tablet and stuff.
2 – Continuum which I can actually use by getting rid of my laptop for 90% of use cases.
3 – Office UWP apps which can open files from onedrive like on the ipad, iPhone, android and wp 10 phone.
4 – Some sort of tv device like a raspberry pi 3 that runs some sort of xbox one interface (minus the games)
5 – xamarin forms rewritten to port uwp apps to android and ios
6 – some sort of magic windows subsystem that runs linux so I can run android apps from the PlayStore on Windows phone 10 and normal full Windows 10. FIX THE APP GAP
7 – a few more things…
Only 10 days to see what happens !!!
