This morning the HP Spectre (great machine by the way) I got at the last Microsoft Build conference and gave to my wife did it’s upgrade to Windows 10. The upgrade went very quickly, smoothly and on first boot, it was fully patched (wow !).
All the apps she had were there, I just have to install Office 2016 through our office365 subscription (I was waiting for her to upgrae to Win10 to do this).
As a desktop (mouse, keyboard) Windows 10 feels really nice. In tablet mode, it feels a bit slow (My favorite Windows 8.1 gestures are now gone).
The only place I feel it is a step back, is that whole cloud thing. Windows 10 in it’s first release feels cloud absent. Sure there is a browser, sure there is a few things that sync online, sure there is a store and sure the useless OneDrive wanted to sync my wife’s 100 gig onedrive without the smart placeholders we had in Windows 8.1.
But I feel there something missing… no messaging, no skyping, no built-in productivity tools, no “wow” integration with her phone… something is still missing. Hopefully, Microsoft will remedy these little problems at tomorrow’s press event.
