One of my clients needed a small file server that would provide vpn access for their workers.
It’s not our usual business but, since we had a little history together, I figured we would do it. So we went out, bought a small computer, bought a copy of Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials and installed it. Installed all of the updates, installed all of the drivers for the computer, created a few accounts, configured storage spaces and the file shares.
Then, we configured remote access via the web (worked perfectly after configuring the router’s port forwarding) and then the vpn.
The VPN seems to work fine, it authenticated users and gave them an address on the network.
The problem is, we couldn’t access anything on the network, we couldn’t ping anything… Now we might not be good at server stuff but that’s why we chose “Essentials”, it’s suppose to be easy !!!
After a day and a half of troubleshooting, we tried something, we uninstalled the “AppEx network accelerator” software which was installed with the AMD cpu’s driver, and that was it… It was a driver that was probably preventing everything from working.
30 seconds after, everything was working fine.
